7 amazing things Janis Strelnieks learned about Lithuania 0

Zalgiris’ Latvian guard Janis Strelnieks is obviously no spring chicken, with the 32-year-old having travelled all over Europe throughout his career, playing for teams in Latvia, Ukraine, Russia, Germany and Greece. Nevertheless, having moved across the border of his native country to Lithuania, the braliukas learned quite a few new things about his neighbors.

Strelnieks talked about some of the things he’s learned in Zalgiris TV’s newest video. The Latvian basketball star talked about the national dessert that left an impression on him – šakotis. According to the green-and-white man, Lithuanians love it due to the fact that it’s hollow and you can throw a tennis ball inside.

He also noted that each family is gifted a basketball whenever they have a child born, while the doors in Kaunas are painted green to bring good luck. Strelnieks kept pulling out new facts, and declared that Zalgiris is so big in Lithuania, that even the talisman Žalgirinis has his own mascot – his son Mažius.

Janis also invited Latvian basketball fans to come see it all for themselves, and encouraged them to visit Kaunas for a EuroLeague game.

This March will see a marathon of EuroLeague home games, as a face-off against FC Barcelona awaits on the 11th of March, followed by meetings against Olympiacos on the 15th, Anadolu Efes on the 17th and ASVEL on the 23rd of March.

Fans purchasing tickets to all four games in March will find the ticket to the game against FC Barcelona free of charge. Deals are in place for two-game packages: FC Barcelona + Olympiacos or Anadolu Efes + ASVEL.
