Zalgiris concedes second domestic league defeat in Vilnius 33
In the latest edition of the Lithuanian derby, Rytas Vilnius (21-3) welcomed Zalgiris Kaunas (22-2) in Lithuanian capital on Sunday. The hosts handed the second Lithuanian Basketball League loss for Zalgiris 87-74 (17-19, 25-12, 20-26, 25-17).
Led by Ivan Buva, Rytas ran away from Zalgiris in the second quarter. The hosts organized a 12-0 run to gain a double-digit lead (40-29).
Even though Zalgirs came within 3 points (59-62) at the start of the fourth quarter, Rytas spurted 7-0 and got back the double-digit advantage (69-59). The hosts maintained substantial lead till the end of the game.
On top of that, Zalgiris lost Edgaras Ulanovas due to a knee injury. He was forced to leave the floor with a help of teammates.
Ivan Buva led the way for the winners, accumulating 18 points (7/9 2PT, 0/2 3PT, 4/7 FT), 5 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 turnover, and a game-high 20 PIR.
Despite exiting the match early, Edgaras Ulanovas was the top performer for Zalgiris, posting 8 points (2/4 2PT, 1/1 3PT, 1/3 FT), 6 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 turnovers, 1 steal, and 15 PIR.
Lukas Lekavicius missed the game, as he stayed sick in Kaunas.
