#ZalgirisOnAir. Niels Giffey talks sightseeing in Lithuania, Kemba Walker, and captain duties 0
Zalgiris TV presents another episode of the #ZalgirisOnAir podcast. The hour-long interview with Niels Giffey, which was filmed during the EuroLeague season, has seen finally seen the light of day.
The conversation ranged from Giffey’s early days in basketball, street art in Berlin, to playing in USA, ALBA and his move to Kaunas.
Talking about Kaunas and Lithuania, the Zalgiris player highlighted some of his favorite places.
“We had two days off and I went to Palanga, where I felt like I was in another world. My parents come from a town close to the Polish border, 10 minutes from the seaside. In Palanga, I really liked the beach with the dunes and the forest behind it. In Kaunas, I like Laisves Avenue”, – noted the guest of the podcast.
Giffey also had the opportunity to reminisce about his years studying across the pond, winning two NCAA titles and playing alongside NBA star Kemba Walker.
After studying in USA, Giffey returned to his hometown team and later became captain of ALBA Berlin. Having grown up in the club’s youth system, he took it as a very exciting chapter in his career.
“It was a very important moment. I renewed my contract in the summer and when I talked to the people at the club, I told them that I wanted to stay here because this is my club, my hometown team. I wanted to take on even more responsibility, not to mention minutes and scoring points. I wanted more responsibility for the culture of the team itself. They liked it and I was happy to have this position,” – said the Zalgiris player.
To close out the podcast, Giffey also answered questions sent in by Zalgiris fans.
