Zalgiris dominates against Neptunas, advances to Lithuanian League semis 21
In a do-or-die game of the Lithuanian Basketball League quarterfinals, Zalgiris Kaunas eased pats Neptunas Klaipeda 89-60 (23-14, 16-13, 33-17, 17-16) and advanced to the next phase.
The reigning Lithuanian champs will meet Lietkabelis Panaezys in the LKL semifinals. The semis format consists of the best-of-five series.
Powered by Josh Nebo and Niels Giffey’s buckets, Zalgiris ran away from their opponents in the second quarter. The Greens spurted 10-1 and created a 14-point advantage (36-22). Neptunas arranged a last efficient attack before halftime and both squads were separated by 12 points (39-27) after 20 playing minutes.
Zalgiris pushed the gas pedal once more at the start of the third tally. Kazys Maksvytis’ men organized a 12-0 push, gained a 24-point advantage (58-34), and never looked back.
Niels Giffey was a top performer for the winners, finishing the duel with 15 points (2/4 2PT, 1/2 3PT, 8/8 FT), 5 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal, and 23 PIR.
