Zalgiris wins third place in LKL in last Jankunas career-game 15
In his final game ever, Paulius Jankunas left the floor smiling as Zalgiris Kaunas defeated Siauliai-7bet 89-76 (23-26, 21-14, 23-15, 22-21) and won 3rd place in Lithuanian Basketball League.
Marek Blazevic was the top performer for the winners, accumulating 17 points (7/10 2PT, 3/4 FT), 12 rebounds, and 29 PIR.
Paulius Jankunas finished with 9 points and 5 rebounds in the finale of his storied 19-season career, 18 of which he played for Zalgiris.
On the opposing side, Donatas Sabeckis was the high-scorer for Siauliai-7bet, ending with 23 points (3/6 2PT, 4/8 3PT, 5/9 FT), 5 assists and 19 PIR.
After the close first half, Zalgiris initiated 9-1 run and built a double-digit lead (53-41) in the beginning of the third quarter. The hosts managed to reduce the lead, but EuroLeague side had response for every possession and maintained 12-points lead (67-55) going into the fourth quarter.
The situation didn’t change in the last quarter as Zalgiris increased their lead to 18 points (83-65) with 3:50 to go. The remaining minutes were just a formality, as the visitors came away with a comfortable victory.
