Zalgiris Backstage: behind the scenes in EuroLeague media day 0
The Euroleague Media Day has already become a tradition for Zalgiris Kaunas, during which the players take their official season photos, hand out interviews and take part in promotional clips.
Traditionally, the creative team of Zalgiris TV with the Zalgiris Backstage presenter Egle Jurgaityte leading the way, recorded the behind-the-scenes of the Media Day. The players were quite frank, not hiding their feelings towards this obligation.
“Really, does anyone like media days? I know it’s inevitable, so I’m here to do my job,” laughed Kevarrius Hayes.
Ignas Brazdeikis, who is welcoming his first season in the EuroLeague and who carried probably the heaviest load of photo shoots and commercials during the media day, joked that he rehearsed different poses in front of the mirror for two hours. When asked by Egle what was the first thing he did when he returned to Kaunas, he quickly found the answer.
“I immediately went to eat some cepelinai my grandmother cooked. That was one of the first things I did. What else? We spent time with my family. I went to Akropolis to see what the local fashion was like,” smiled the new Zalgiris man.
Paulius Jankunas, who hung up the sneakers after the conclusion of last season and joined Zalgiris’ administration as the right-hand man of Paulius Motiejunas, avoided many of the usual things for basketball players at this year’s media day, but shared some memories of media days in the past.
Another newcomer to the team, Keenan Evans, immediately knew what the strangest part about the photo shoots was.
“It’s always weird when they ask you to scream to show emotion. And you’re just standing in front of people behind the cameras. It’s always weird,” he said.
