Olympiacos comes on top in Piraeus 20
Zalgiris Kaunas dropped to 0-2 at the early point in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague season after falling 80-90 to Olympiacos Piraeus at Peace and Friendship Stadium on Friday night.
Sasha Vezenkov led the way for the Reds with 23 points and 14 rebounds for Olympiacos, which was able to shine despite playing behind closed doors. Moustapha Fall added 16 points, with five Olympiacos players scoring in double figures.
Ignas Brazdeikis scored 21 points for Zalgiris, Keenan Evans had 14, while Tyler Cavanaugh added 12 points and 7 rebounds.
Zalgiris had a strong start to the game and led 7-2 after 7 straight points from Rolands Smits. The guests led 11-4, but Olympiacos held them scoreless for nearly 4 minutes. However, Lithuanians got in front 21-18 after 10 minutes.
Brazdeikis was trying to give it all in the second quarter, but it ended with a nine-point deficit, 35-44, at halftime.
Olympiacos remained in front the entire third quarter and even pushed the advantage to double digits with its last basket of the period to lead 56-67.
Zalgiris stayed in the game and hit back-to-back triples to make it 70-74 in favor of the Reds, yet Olympiacos answered with the next seven points to finish off the Lithuanians and grab its second win of the season.
