Zalgiris starts LKL semis with a win 11
Zalgiris Kaunas started the Betsafe-LKL semi-final series victoriously. Kazis Maksvytis’ team defeated 7bet-Lietkabelis Panevezys 69-58 to lead best-of-five series 1-0.
Edgaras Ulanovas started the game in Garliava with a long-range shot, Lukas Lekavicius made two free throws, and Rolands Smits scored a two-pointer with a foul and a long-range shot to make it 11-6. Ulanovas, Laurynas Birutis and Isaiah Taylor scored from under the basket, Dovydas Giedraitis made a mid-range jumper, Smits made another three-pointer and Achille Polonara added a point from the free throw line, 23-15.
Ignas Brazdeikis scored four points, while Tyler Cavanaugh and Karolis Lukosiunas were on target from long range for a 33-23 lead. Birutis scored another two-pointer from under the basket, and the dry three-minute stretch was broken by a long-range shot by Ulanovas, 38-29 at halftime.
Tomas Dimsa made free-throws and a three-pointer, Ulanovas finished two consecutive possessions, and Lekavicius had a raid under the basket, 49-41. In the remaining four minutes of the third period, Giedraitis scored a long-range shot, and at the end of the period Cavanaugh made two free throws. 54-49.
Giedraitis scored a free throw, but in the first half of the decisive quarter both teams’ offense was stagnant, 55-51. Lekavicius finished the attack with a one-handed shot, Ulanovas scored four points in a row, Birutis scored six, and Smits made a tough shot from under the basket to seal the win, 69-58.
Ulanovas with 16 points and Smits with 11 were the best scorers, but the MVP pf the game was Birutis with the statline of 10 points, 14 rebounds and 2 blocks.
