LKL Finals series start with Zalgiris victory at home 15
Zalgiris Kaunas started the Betsafe-LKL Finals series with a win. Kazis Maksvytis’ team defeated Rytas Vilnius by 108-93 at Zalgirio Arena.
Rolands Smits made a three-pointer early in the game, Arnas Butkevicius hit a three-pointer and added two free throws, Isaiah Taylor and Ignas Brazdeikis had successful raids under the basket, and Smits converted his second three-pointer to make it 14-14. Smits and Brazdeikis corrected their misses, Tomas Dimsa and Butkevicius made two free throws each, Tyler Cavanaugh scored from under the basket and Kevarrius Hayes dunked it for 26-21 lead after 10 minutes.
Lukas Lekavicius scored four straight points, Edgaras Ulanovas and Smits made two points each, but the score was tied at 34-34. Brazdeikis went hard for 2+1, Dimsa added a three-pointer and a lay-up, Butkevicius made two free throws and Hayes scored from under the basket to make it 46-46 at halftime.
After the break, Butkevicius scored twice with the fouls, Ulanovas copied him once and added a three-pointer, and Dimsa successfully invaded the paint area, 60-57. Butkevicius made another difficult basket, Cavanaugh scored seven points, Lekavicius hit two three-pointers and Birutis didn’t miss from the free-throw line, 80-71.
Birutis dunked it home, Ulanovas made a good shot from long range, Cavanaugh scored a two-pointer with a foul on his opponent, Dimsa and Birutis converted their free throws, and Lekavicius scored two points, 94-79. Birutis went big under the basket, Butkevicius made a three-pointer, Brazdeikis scored another two-pointer and Karolis Lukosiunas clinched the victory with five points, 108-93.
Butkevicius dominated against his former team with 21 points. Dimsa scored 13, while Cavanaugh and Lekavicius added 12 points each.
