Zalgiris takes confident victory over Rytas in the capital 26
Zalgiris Kaunas (8-0) has put the lock on the first place in the Betsafe-LKL Championship. Kazys Maksvytis’ team defeated Rytas (7-1) 81-67 on the road in Vilnius and became the league’s sole leader.
Kevarrius Hayes started the game with four points, Edgaras Ulanovas scored on a floater and Keenan Evans made three free throws to make it 9-6. Laurynas Birutis added three points, Lukas Lekavicius drove to the basket and Tomas Dimsa had five points, 19-10.
Brady Manek made two three-pointers in a row, Dimsa connected on a long shot, and Hayes and Naz Mitrou-Long scored underneath, 32-17. Ulanovas added three points, Birutis and Manek were accurate from the free-throw line and Evans scored six points in a few minutes, 45-33.
Dovydas Giedraitis hit a three-pointer after the break, Ulanovas scored a two-pointer, but in the middle of the third period the deficit was reduced to single digits – 50-42. Birutis dunked it home and sank a free throw, Dimsa added five points, Mitrou-Long made a successful raid to the free throw line, and Rolands Smits scored his first points, 62-50.
Dimsa and Evans scored at the start of the fourth quarter, Smits added four points and the teams were separated by fifteen points (70-55). Dimsa drove to the basket, Ulanovas scored five points and Evans had four points to seal the victory, 81-67.
Dimsa was the leading scorer for Zalgiris with 17 points. Evans added 15 points and 3 steals, while Ulanovas collected 12 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists.
