Olympiacos Piraeus celebrated its third win in a row in the 2023-24 Turkish Airlines Euroleague season after beating Zalgiris Kaunas 72-89 at home in Round 10. Olympiacos improved to 6-4 while Zalgiris dropped to 4-6.
The Greek side thus boosted its hopes of reaching the postseason after what was arguably its best performance this term, with shooting guard Isaiah Canaan leading the charge with a career-high 25 points.
Forward Alec Peters also produced yet another superb individual display for the home team, having scored 22 points, while playmaker Thomas Walkup shined with 14 points and 4 assists.
At the other end, Keenan Evans paced Zalgiris with 21 points, 17 of them in the second half.
The rivals were tied 19-19 at the end of the opening 10 minutes before Walkup turned on the heat, knocking down several three-pointers amid a 14-0 Olympiacos run which propelled the hosts into a 31-43 lead at halftime.
Evan tried to keep Zalgiris afloat as he picked up the gauntlet in the second half, but his valiant effort was overshadowed by that of Canaan, who shot the lights out with a mesmerizing display which earned him a PIR of 25.
Peters joined the party and there was no way back for the visitors after they fell 20 points behind late in the third. Olympiacos kept its foot on the gas in the fourth, much to the delight of a passionate home crowd.
