The trip to Spain ends with a loss in Barcelona 18
Zalgiris Kaunas (7-14) ended their EuroLeague double week in Spain with a loss. Andrea Trinchieri’s team lost 73-91 (12-26, 25-18, 20-24, 16-23) to FC Barcelona (15-6) in Round 21 game.
Dario Brizuela shattered his previous career best of 9 points with 24 points and Jabari Parker scored 18 points in helping Barcelona move to 15-6 and 10-1 at home. Friday night’s victory gave Barcelona sole possession of second place in the standings.
Zalgiris fell to 7-14 despite Edmond Sumner scoring 15 points. The guests shot just 41.2% on two-pointers and 32.1% on three-pointers in the game.
Barcelona started well with the first 13 points, as Zalgiris did not score for the first 4 minutes. The guests could not get anything going really and trailed 12-26 after 10 minutes.
The hosts pushed the gap to 16 points, 12-28, early in the second quarter. Zalgiris finally got some stops, holding Barcelona scoreless for nearly 3 minutes and scored 10 straight points to trim it to 22-28. The rally continued with Zalgiris knotting the game 30-30 and even taking the lead 32-30 after a 20-2 run. Barcelona, however, finished the first half with a 9-2 spurt and led 37-44 at the break.
Barcelona started better in the second half and the cushion was 43-54, only to see Zalgiris score the next 8 points to make it 51-54. Brizuela hit 2 three-pointers as Barcelona pushed ahead 54-64 late in the third quarter, which ended with Zalgiris down 57-68. Brizuela just kept scoring with a triple for a 58-74 lead. Barcelona added 9 straight points and the score was 66-87 with under 3 minutes to play.
