Zalgiris goes through Wolves to the Cup F4 32
Zalgiris Kaunas has reached the Final Four of the Citadele Karalius Mindaugas Cup. Andrea Trinchieri’s team finished a second leg game with Wolves Vilnius with a draw 82-82 (23-26, 21-22, 21-18, 17-16) and advanced to the next round thanks to their victory in the first match of the series.
Laurynas Birutis scored eleven points in the first six minutes of the game, Edmond Sumner connected from mid-range and Keenan Evans hit a three-pointer to make it 16-15. Rolands Smits scored seven points in a row in the remaining four minutes, 23-26.
Kevarrius Hayes added six points, Tomas Dimsa scored four, and Edgaras Ulanovas made a free throw, 34-32. Before the break, Smits and Brady Manek finished underneath, and Evans scored a pair of points, 44-48.
Right after the break, Birutis and Manek added three points each, and after five points by Evans, Zalgiris was back in front, 55-54. Sumner had a raid under the basket, Arnas Butkevicius made free throws, and Dovydas Giedraitis and Dimša scored from long range, 65-66.
Hayes scored four points at the beginning of the decisive quarter, Smits hit a three-pointer and Lukas Lekavicius and Ulanovas pulled Zalgiris ahead, 76-73. Ulanovas was successful under the basket, Hayes scored four more points, but the opponents evened the score and the winner of the game was not revealed, 82-82.
The trio of Birutis, Hayes and Evans scored 14 points each for Zalgiris. Smits added 12 points.
