Zalgiris returns to EuroLeague action with the loss against Olympiacos 14
Zalgiris Kaunas (11-16) returned to EuroLeague action after the break with a defeat. Andrea Trinchieri’s team lost 76-95 (20-23, 19-18, 17-28, 20-26) to Olympiacos Piraeus (16-11) at Zalgirio Arena.
Keenan Evans scored six points in the first minutes, and Edgaras Ulanovas added a floater to make it 8-12. Evans made three free throws, Lukas Lekavicius hit a three-pointer and Rolands Smits scored six points, 20-23.
Smits added five more points, and after three-pointers by Evans and Karolis Lukosiunas, Zalgiris took the lead, 31-30. Before the break, Smits and Lekavicius scored four more points each, 39-41.
Evans finished a 2+1 play, Tomas Dimsa and Kevarrius Hayes scored their first points, and Brady Manek added four, 49-58. Hayes and Dimsa also made baskets, while Lekavicius connected on a long-range shot to make it 56-69.
Smits scored from under the basket, Evans converted another two-pointer with a foul, while Ulanovas, Dimsa and Laurynas Birutis added two points each, 67-87. Birutis scored a two-pointer with a foul, while Lukosiunas and Edmond Sumner made a three-pointer each, but the difference was not reduced any further, 76-95.
Thomas Walkup starred with a career-high 22 points and 6 assists against his old team. Shaquielle McKissic came off the bench for a season-high 20 points while Alec Peters added 16 and Moses Wright 11. Evans scored 19 and Smits 17 for Zalgiris.
