Zalgiris pushes past Milan 11
Zalgiris Kaunas defeated EA7 Emporio Armani Milan 87-73 at home in Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Round 32 on Thursday. The result leaves both teams with 14-18 records, but Zalgiris has beaten Milan twice this season and thus owns the head-to-head tie-break advantage.
Keenan Evans paced the winners with 20 points. Edmond Sumner added 17 Arnas Butkevicius had 13 and Lukas Lekavicius 10 for Zalgiris.
Nikola Mirotic led Milan with 19 points, Shabazz Napier added 17 and Shavon Shields 11.
Dovydas Giedraitis got Zalgiris going with a driving layup and got help from Laurynas Birutis and Edgaras Ulanovas for a 10-5 lead. Mirotic rescued Milan with 6 quick points and then Shields and Alex Poythress gave the visitors a 14-17 lead after 10 minutes.
Brady Manek and Lekavicius each hit a triple for a 23-22 Zalgiris lead. Stefano Tonut struck twice from downtown and Devon Hall added a three-pointer for a 35-37 Milan edge at halftime.
Sumner stepped up after the break and Evans’ fastbreak dunk made it 45-40. Kevarrius Hayes’ one-handed alley-oop slam soon made it 56-48. Mirotic singlehandedly brought Milan within 59-54 after 30 minutes.
Hayes dunked again to make it a double-digit game, 64-54, with less than 8 minutes left. Shields, Poythress and Napier got Milan within 72-68. Butkevicius and Summer each struck from downtown to seal the outcome, 78-68, with under 3 minutes left.
