Zalgiris takes home win from Panevezys 7
Zalgiris Kaunas (21-2) took home the win from Panevezys in the Betsafe-LKL championship. Andrea Trinchieri’s team defeated 7bet-Lietkabelis (13-10) by 83-77 (22-16, 28-24, 18-18, 15-19).
Dovydas Giedraitis started the game with five consecutive points and Edmond Sumner drove free to the basket, but then Kaunas team lost a stretch 0-14 and chased the opponents, 7-14. Arnas Butkevicius connected from long range, Brady Manek scored five points, Lukas Lekavicius made a floater, Tomas Dimsa converted his free throws, and Kevarrius Hayes scored with a foul, 22-16.
Lekavicius made a three-pointer and added two points, Keenan Evans made a dunk, and Laurynas Birutis and Edgaras Ulanovas hit free throws, 33-27. Ulanovas scored six points, Evans splashed twice from long range, Hayes added two points and Lekavicius finished the first half with a three-pointer, 50-40.
Birutis scored two points after the break, Sumner, Evans and Lekavicius each hit a three-pointer, and Butkevicius sank a free throw, 62-50. Butkevicius and Hayes scored from under the basket, while Lekavicius and Manek each added a point from the free throw line, 68-58.
Giedraitis opened the last quarter with two three-pointers, while Birutis finished two possessions and Sumner added a point from the free-throw line, 79-67. The opponents got closer, but Dimsa and Evans scored free throws to seal the victory, 83-77.
The backcourt trio of Zalgiris – Lekavicius, Evans and Giedraitis – were the best scorers with 14, 13 and 11 points respectively.
