Zalgiris Kaunas signs Demetre Rivers until the end of the season 7
The injury-ridden Zalgiris Kaunas is strengthening its roster. The Lithuanian champions have signed a contract until the end of the season with 203 cm tall American Demetre Rivers.
The 28-year-old, who can play in both win positions, played for Givova Scafati in the Italian top league this season.
In Italy, Rivers averaged 10.3 points, 4.1 rebounds and 10.4 assists in 28 minutes of action.
“Due to the uncertain situation with the injured players and the deadline for the registration of players in Betsafe-LKL championship, we have decided to add a rookie for the final stage of the season. With Arnas Butkevicius out for an extended period of time and Tomas Dimsa currently unable to play, a gap has opened up in the rotation. Rivers will help to fill the gap and will be another player who will help us to achieve our goals in the season finale,” said Zalgiris Kaunas President Paulius Jankunas.
After studying and playing at Mercer University in the NCAA, Rivers started his European career with Pernu Sadam in Estonia. The American then played for two years in Hungary, representing Nymburk CEZ in the 2021-2022 season. A year later, he moved to PAOK Thessaloniki in the FIBA Champions League, and last season he played for Buyukcekmece Istanbul.
