Zalgiris struggles, defeats Rock 0
Zalgiris was given a tough time in a Baltic Basketball League (BBL) game in Kaunas, edging Tartu Rock 73:68 on Saturday.
Dainius Salenga scored 20 points to lead the hosts, Martynas Pocius layed in 19 and Mantas Kalnietis added 10. Rock’s Janar Talts had 20, as Scott Morrison netted 14 and Todd Abernethy contributed 12 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists.
The game started with an unexpected 10:2 Rock run, that made Zalgiris’ coach Gintaras Krapikas call for a time out. The hosts managed to turn the game around and were already in the lead near the end of the quarter at 19:15. Zalgiris coud not compile a double-digit lead and the Estonians kept the hosts tight under pressure. Rock closed within 1, as the scoreboard was showing 59:60. The Lithuanians gained a 5 points advantage with a minute remaining on the clock. All the Rock players could manage is to shift the lead to 3 a couple of times, but still had to admit defeat.
