Zalgiris beats Asseco Prokom behind Brown’s 23 0
Zalgiris wasted a 19-point advantage, but still managed to beat Asseco Prokom 93:88 (22:18, 28:16, 23:29, 20:25) to take the second straight Euroleague Top 16 victory.
Marcus Brown was his own self once again for Zalgiris, scoring 23 points to collect a game-high. Mantas Kalnietis, Dainius Salenga and Mirza Begic, who also grabbed 7 rebounds, all had 11 points each, while Martynas Pocius and Tadas Klimavicius both added 10. Travis Watson was one point shy of a double-double, finishing the game with 9 points and 11 rebounds.
David Logan led the visitors with 22, Qyntel Woods scored 17, Ratko Varda added 13 while Daniel Ewing and Ronnie Burell netted 11 and 10 respectively.
Tadas Klimavicius opened the third quarter with an and-one play that gave Zalgiris the biggest lead of the game – 53:34.
Brown scored 15 points alone in a row without missing a shot at one point in the second quarter.
However, the Polish club battled back into the game and tied the game at 73-all with a 10:0 surge at the start of the fourth.
Asseco Prkom had a lead for a short period, but Brown hit a shot from long-range, Mirza Begic and Mantas Kalnietis also scored baskets to return the lead into the hands of Zalgiris – 80:76. Accurate free-throw shooting sealed the victory for the hosts.
