Zalgiris takes another one in Utena 0
Juventus Utena had a 13-point lead at one point in the game, but Zalgiris Kaunas raced back from behind to snatch a 81:86 (25:21, 21:15, 18:30, 17:20) victory after a strong third quarter.
Tomas Gaidamavicius paced the home team with 19 points and 7 assists, Jonas Elvikis and Paulius Morkeliunas collected 13 each as Darius Pakamanis added 12, but missed some important free-throws down the stretch.
Zalgiris was led by Dainius Salenga, who scored 20 points as Aleksandar Capin had 15 points and 7 rebounds. Arturas Milaknis netted 14 points, Tadas Klimavicius scored 11 and added 13 rebounds while Mirza Begic and Martynas Pocius shared the same point total of 10.
With a 12:3 run in the second half, the top flight debutants raced to a 46:33 lead behind a partisan crowd.
The side from Utena allowed Zalgiris to score 7 unanswered points at the start of the second half to close within 40:46. The visitors continued their spurt and turned the lead around.
Juventus decreased their deficit to four points with a minute remaining as the scoreboard showed 78:82 in favour of Zalgiris. Jonas Elvikis lost the ball and Zalgiris’ playmaker Capin shot confidently from the free-throw line to seal the game.
