Zalgiris falls short against Khimki 0
Keith Langford had yet another great game against Zalgiris Kaunas helping Khimki Moscow Region brush off a late rally by the visitors from Lithuania to move to a 5-1 record in the VTB United League with a 78-76 (12-12, 24-22, 26-22, 16-20) win over the side from Kaunas.
“I’d like to congratulate Khimki with the win. It’s a pity, we couldn’t revenge for the loss in Euroleague a couple weeks ago,” said Rimantas Grigas, the coach of Zalgiris, who has now lost twice to Khimki in his short reign at the club.
“The luck just wasn’t with us. Our game lacked thought both offensively and defensively, therefore we need to put much more effort in what we’re doing and improve.”
Paulius Jankunas had a team-high 12 points for the visitors from Kaunas, Travis Watson scored 10 points and grabbed 9 boards while Martynas Pocius and Tadas Klimavicius chipped in with 9 points each.
The club’s new addition in the center position, Boban Marjanovic, made his debut in a green-and-white jersey in this game and managed to score three points and grab four boards in 13 minutes.
Khimki’s main scorer Keith Langford finished the game with 23 points while Benjamin Eze provided the inside scoring for the hosts, collecting 18 points, including a close-range game winner. Kresimir Loncar and Zoran Planinic both got into double digits as well with 10 points each.
After starting the season with four straight victories, Zalgiris has now dropped two straight and slumped to a 4-2 record, which is good enough for fourth position in a six-team group.
