Zalgiris defeats Kalev, starts season on high note 0
A good fourth quarter by Zalgiris was enough to open the new season with a win. The club from Kaunas took an 84-70 (22-23, 20-11, 15-18, 27-18) victory against Kalev in the VTB United League and began the new season on a high note.
The Estonians had closed the gap to two points at 48-50 after a triple from Gert Dorbek near the end of the third quarter, but Zalgiris finished the period with a 7-2 run to restore the balance of powers.
Tadas Klimavicius was the key player for Zalgiris with a double-double of 15 points and 11 boards, while Milovan Rakovic, Sonny Weems and Marko Popovic all finished the game with 13 points.
Mantas Kalnietis also reached double-digits with 10 points, Robertas Javtokas had 8, while Paulius Jankunas ended up with 4.
