Kaunas Akropolis Cup belongs to Zalgiris after win vs. Krasnodar 0
Zalgiris Kaunas was victorious in Kaunas Akropolis Cup on Sunday evening. The team celebrating it’s 70th anniversary defeated Lokomotiv-Kuban Krasnodar 65-49 in the final game in Zalgirio Arena.
The first quarter of the game showed a great start of Lokomotiv-Kuban which overwhelmed Zalgiris by 13 points at the end of the first 10 minutes (10-23). Coach Krapikas stopped the game in two occasions trying to address his guys in the right direction. The words seemed to find the right spot in the ears of Zalgiris’ players because in the second quarter things definitely changed. A great second quarter of Artursa Gudaitis and James Anderson brought back the game to the Zalgris (33-32).
At the beginning of the third quarter Lokomotiv-Kuban regained the necessary strength to come back in the game and put 7 points in a row on the board. It did not scare Zalgiris players. They immediately reached the Russian team with 6 points by Robertas Javtokas and Vytenis Lipkevicius. Darius Songaila closed the third quarter whit the personal show (44-39).
The last quarter was all green. Inspired by great defense Zalgiris run away. Javtokas and Arturas Milaknis were the best scorers of the partial and brought the score up to 20 points (65-45). In the very last actions of the game Krasnodar was able to come closer, but the final victory was for Zalgiris – 65-49.
