Zalgiris and captain Jankunas stay together 4 more years 0
Zalgiris Kaunas reached a new agreement with team captain Paulius Jankunas, who re-signed his contract until the end of the 2018-19 season.
Born in Kaunas and raised in Zalgiris, Jankunas has spent almost his whole career in the club, only playing elsewhere – for Khimki Moscow Region – in the 2009-10 season. He averaged 9.1 points and 6.5 rebounds in 24 Turkish Airlines Euroleague last season.
Jankunas ranks 20th in the all-time Euroleague scoring list (1,779 points), is fourth in rebounds (1,178) and 19th in games played (208).
Of course, Jankunas has helped Zalgiris succeed in domestic competition, winning 9 Lithuanian League titles and lifting 5 Lithuanian Cup and 4 Baltic Cup trophies with his lifelong club. Jankunas has also been a member of the Lithuanian national team and won a bronze medal at the 2010 FIBA World Cup. He helped Lithuania win a gold medal at the 2005 U21 World Championships and reached the 2003 U18 World Championship title game.
“I welcome the fact that I will continue playing for Zalgiris. Not only it is fun, but very important for me and as an athlete,” Jankunas told Euroleague.net. “It is very good for me to play here, where I grew up and feel other people’s faith. It is nice that the club managers and coach allow me to be part of his club. It is a great honor.”
