Zalgiris loses the opening LKL game 32
Zalgiris Kaunas started it‘s Lithuanian League season with an unexpected road loss. The Lithuanian champions were defeated by the ambitious Lietkabelis Panevezys 86:90 (17:22, 22:30, 29:17, 18:21).
Leo Westermann started the game with the first two Zalgiris points of the season. The rest of the quarter was competitive and at the end of it Lietkabelis led 17:22.
Zalgiris struggled in defense, therefore in the second quarter Lietkabelis managed to gain a solid lead – 39:52.
Right at the start of the second half Zalgiris started to guard it‘s basket significantly better. While scoring 29 points in the third quarter Kaunas team only let Lietkabelis to get 17 points. Zalgiris was back in the game – 68:69.
The final quarter was up for grabs and the defending champions fought till the last second, but came up short in the end – 86:90.
Arturas Milaknis scored 18 points for Zalgiris. Paulius Jankunas added 13, Westermann finished with 12.
Zygimantas Janavicius led Lietkabelis with 15 points, Ksistof Lavrinovic got 14.
