Zalgiris scores at ease vs. Neptunas on the road 21
The defending Lithuanian League champions got their fourteenth win in a row after defeating Neptunas Klaipeda on Sunday. Zalgiris demonstrated solid basketball and won the game by a huge margin – 95:67 (24:19, 19:13, 29:19, 23:16).
The first period was pretty competitive. Neptunas and Zalgiris traded buckets back and forth and by the end of first quarter Kaunas team led 24:19.
Zalgiris players managed to increase their lead in the second quarter. They improved their defense and made quality shots. Neptunas tried to get closer before halftime, but Edgaras Ulanovas and Arturas Milaknis would not let that happen – 43:32.
The third period was the decider. Behind the efforts of Kevin Pangos, Leo Westermann and Brock Motum Zalgiris managed to gain a 20 point lead. While Neptunas struggled to put the ball in the basket, the greens were able to pull off 72:51.
Considering the high quality defense from Zalgiris, Neptunas did not have much room to improve. Kaunas team players Ulanovas, Renaldas Seibutis and Antanas Kavaliauskas played a solid fourth quarter and secured the 95:67 win.
Ulanovas scored 19 for Zalgiris. Motum added 18, Kavaliauskas got 14.
Vytautas Sarakauskas was the leading scorer for Neptunas with 15. Jimmy Baron added 11.
