Zalgiris loses after 19 wins in a row 46
Zalgiris Kaunas lost the second game in their LKL season so far. Once again, the greens felt short to BC Lietkabelis in Panevezys. It was an exciting Monday night for both teams’ fans, but in the end it was the city of Panevezys that celebrated. Final score – 77:79 (18:18, 19:26, 19:15, 21:20).
Both teams went head to head in the first quarter. Lietkabelis shot very well from deep and did not allow Zalgiris to go ahead. There were many lead changes, but at the end of the first the score was tied (18:18).
Zalgiris had trouble in the second period. Lietkabelis defense was very tough and their shooting just kept to improve. Therefore Panevezys team were able to gain a 7 point lead before the halftime (37:44).
Lietkabelis intensity was too much for Zalgiris in the beginning of the third quarter. Zalgiris just were not able to find their game and they suddenly had a 13 point deficit. However, after a couple of timeouts Kaunas team improved their defense ant started to move the ball better. The defending champions managed to cut Lietkabelis lead to just 3 points before the final period.
Things were looking good for Zalgiris in the beginning of the final quarter. Kaunas players were finally able to retake the lead and the crowd in Cido arena got silent. But Lietkabelis did not back down and forced a dramatic ending of the match. It was anybody‘s game, but in the end, Lorenzo Williams won it for Panevezys with a last seconds layup.
Lukas Lekavicius and Paulius Jankunas scored 14 for Zalgiris.
Ben Magden got 19 for Lietkabelis and Tadas Rinkunas added 15.
