Lietuvos Rytas wins nail-biting thriller to level the series 35
Lietuvos Rytas Vilnius bounced back from its opening loss in the Betsafe LKL Finals by downing archrivals Zalgiris Kaunas 82-73 at home in Game 2 on Monday. The best-of-seven series is now tied at 1-1, as Zalgiris is set to host Game 3 on Thursday.
Brandon Davies led Zalgiris with 17 points. Edgaras Ulanovas added 15, Vasilije Micic had 13 and Aaron White 12 for the guests.
Loukas Mavrokefalidis led the winners with 24 points on 9-of-13 shooting. Ben Madgen added 19 while Chris Kramer had 13 for Rytas.
Madgen had five points in a 7-0 run which he capped with a jumper for a 15-11 Rytas lead late in the first quarter. Zalgiris improved its defense and a dunk by Davies made the hosts call timeout, 19-19, early in the second quarter. Mavrokefalidis had seven unaswered points and got help from Madgen and Travis Peterson to keep Rytas ahead, 39-33, at halftime.
Martynas Echodas and Kramer took over after the break, boosting Rytas’s led to 47-38. Ulanovas and Micic rescued Zalgiris and back-to-back baskets by Davies made it a two-point game, 57-55 after 30 minutes. A big dunk by White tied it again, 61-61, with over six minutes left. Magden and Mavrokefalidis each struck from downtown for a 69-66 Rytas lead. Free throws by Madgen and a three-pointer by Mindaugas Lukauskis sealed the win, 76-69, in the last-to-last minute.
