The voice of Zalgiris – Andrius Ziurauskas: “Losing my Zalgiris virginity helped me conquer a great fear” 0
As the season marches on, Zalgiris continues with the #ZALGIRISVIRGIN project, sharing the stories of famous fans’ first times watching the team live in Kaunas.
Andrius Ziurauskas, the long-tenured voice of the arena, lost his Zalgiris virginity after a surprising offer to become the announcer in the Kaunas Sports Hall.
“It was a total coincidence, since Valdis Aleksaitis was supposed to be there instead of me. However, he was unavailable at that time and asked me to take his place. I came there having watched so many different TV shows, thinking of a way to introduce Zalgiris. I don’t remember who they were playing against, all I really remember was the packed Kaunas Sports Hall. There was a lot of fear in me at that moment, but once I took center stage, seeing the reaction of the audience just brought the life back in me. I was in shock even after the game, in huge tension. My first time with Zalgiris was all fear and just a great relief after that.”
Usually the first voice you hear before the start of the game, Ziurauskas feels rewarded being part of the club.
“It is a huge gift being in a basketball arena. If you like Zalgiris, if there’s any green-and-white blood in your veins, the only question that stands is “why haven’t you been to the arena?”. It’s not just butterflies in your stomach in Zalgirio Arena, it’s wave after wave of emotions. Supporting and sitting by the television is one thing, but seeing everything live is so much different. Those emotions are genuine and are really difficult to explain. Everyone just has to feel it themselves.”
Throughout the season, Lithuanian celebrities, fans and the players themselves will be sharing their Zalgiris virginity stories. Fans enjoying their very first Zalgirio Arena experience will have the opportunity to purchase their #ZALGIRISVIRGIN package, will be invited to get-togethers with likeminded fans, get to know the never-before visited Zalgirio Arena and try out the entertainment to be offered during the games.
