Toupane: “Zalgiris will be just as dangerous as last year” 0
After making it to the EuroLeague Final Four with Zalgiris last season, Axel Toupane made a move to the team that they had beaten in the Quarterfinals, Greek giants Olympiacos.
Having joined the team, headed by David Blatt, the former Zalgiris man has already paid a visit to Kaunas. While Toupane was sidelined for Olympiakos’ game against Zalgiris, he shared his thoughts on the developments in his career in Greece and last season.
“I had the possibility to come back to Zalgiris for another year, but I received a great offer and I just figured that it would be better for my career to move to Athens.”
Nevertheless, despite parting ways with the Kaunas side, Toupane admitted that he continues to follow the results of his former club. While he’s seen Zalgiris struggle at home at the start of the season, he was adamant that Zalgiris will get the ball rolling and will be a force just like last year.
“I think they are going to be just as dangerous and just as good as last year. They got some big wins on the road to start the season, and although a lot of people keep talking about those losses at home, all of them came against big teams. When you look at last year, at the beginning of the season, we were in a similar position, and we got better by the end of the year. Coach Saras knows how to use his players, and the team will be just fine.”
