Sarunas Jasikevicius meets the members of the Zalgiris honor club 0

Members of the Zalgiris honor club were up for a special evening after the Betsafe-LKL game in Zalgirio Arena last Thursday, as they were met by Sarunas Jasikevicius in Baras 11.

The coach, accompanied by Zalgiris TV host Rytis Kazlauskas, answered all kinds of questions, signed jerseys and joined the honor club members for a group photo.

In the final part of the conversation, Jasikevicius answered all kinds of entertaining questions, including one about the shortest negotiations in his career with former Zalgiris owner and main hero of the recently published book “I’m the miracle, haven’t you noticed?” Vladimiras Romanovas.

“How much money do you want?” – mimicked Sarunas. “Nobody’s talking about the money right now. It’s not about the money. The most important thing is the role, what the team is like. He simply asked me “so you’ll come or you won’t?”. I told him that nobody talks this way in basketball, you should speak to my agent. He’s an impressive character. I mean, he’s got books written about him…”

After that, Jasikevicius talked about his idols and role models in basketball growing up. He noted that the one person he really looked up to was Drazen Petrovic and revealed that it was in his honor that he chose number three during his time in the Indiana Pacers.

“There was Michael Jordan, but he jumps too high, not really my forte. There was Sabonis, but he’s too tall. Not my forte either. That had Drazen Petrovic left for me. Petrovic was a role model. I hated him, I loved him. All over the place. That’s why I chose number 3 in Indiana.”

While it’s still just the start of his coaching career, it seems that Saras already has a plan on what he’ll do after retiring from basketball. According to the coach, he’d be a very tan golf player.

“You know, you call it the farmer’, I call it the golf player’s tan. My hands would be all dark wherever the shirt doesn’t cover. Under the shirt – all white, fat and a face black from tan. One hand would still be white, since I’ve got to wear a golf glove, and the other one would be dark.”

Any Zalgiris fan can become a member of the Zalgiris Honor Club that connects basketball fans, who find Zalgiris to be more than just a team.

Members participate in meetings with coaches and players, can connect to a special member-only zone online, watch some of Zalgiris’ practices and participate in extracurricular activities on and off the court.
