Zalgiris outclasses Rytas to begin title defense with a win 10
The defending Betsafe LKL champions Zalgiris outclassed Rytas 79-64 in the first game of the Finals in Kaunas, taking a step towards retaining the title for the ninth consecutive season.
The home side had got off to a red-hot start, establishing a double-digit lead already in the first quarter of the contest. Although the Rytas showed flashes of potential in the second and third quarters, they ultimately couldn’t dig themselves out of the hole.
Marius Grigonis was the top scorer for Zalgiris with 13 points, with three more players in double figures. Nate Wolters had 12 points, Brandon Davies collected 11 points, while Edgaras Ulanovas chipped in with 10 points and 9 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Artsiom Parakhouski had a team-high 14 points and 8 rebounds, Arnas Butkevicius scored 13 points, while Martynas Echodas collected 10 points.
The best-of-five series will move to Vilnius for Game 2 on Thursday.
