Lukas Lekavicius makes his return to Zalgiris 2
Another piece of the puzzle has just been put into place for Zalgiris, as the team reached an agreement with Lukas Lekavicius, who returns to the club after a two-year break. The 25-year-old, standing at 181 cm tall has put a pen to a 1+1 deal.
The Lithuanian national team floor general started his professional career in Zalgiris’ youth team and donned the jersey of the main team for three seasons, starting in 2014.
After a tremendous season in Kaunas, the agile point guard joined Panathinaikos in Greece, where won the Greek championship twice and reached the EuroLeague Quarterfinals in both of his seasons.
Lukas Lekavicius was delighted to come back to Kaunas and was appreciative of the experience in Athens.
“It wasn’t a difficult decision to come back to Kaunas. From my end, I wanted more playing time, while Zalgiris has taken leaps into the EuroLeague elite in recent years. There will be just as many challenges as there was in Greece. It’s a special feeling returning to Zalgiris. I missed the atmosphere that we had both on and off the court. I can’t wait for next season.”
The playmaker averaged 4 points and 1.3 assists in 11 minutes of playing time in the EuroLeague, while his statistics in the Greek league were better – an average of 7.0 points and 2.9 assists in 17 minutes of game time.
