EuroLeague reached decision: 2019-2020 season officially over 16
The 2019-2020 EuroLeague season is officially over. The decision to end the season was reached in the EuroLeague meeting on Monday. During the video conference, EuroLeague officials and the eleven A license clubs presented their arguments.
“Without a doubt, this is the most difficult decision we have had to take in our 20-year history. Due to reasons beyond our control, we have been forced to cut short the most successful and exciting season in European basketball history,“ – noted EuroLeague president Jordi Bertomeu.
Having explored every possible option, the Executive Board made the decision to cancel the season to ensure the health and safety of the basketball community, including athletes, fans, staff and partners. Besides that, the varied evolution of the virus and travel restrictions in different countries did not provide the same conditions for the teams to prepare and travel to the games.
A month ago, Zalgiris announced the possibility to receive refunds for the three games that didn‘t take place. 66 percent of fans took this opportunity, while the rest of them did not make ask for refunds, this financially aiding their beloved team.
Now that the season is officially over, Zalgiris season ticket holders will also have a chance to receive a compensation. The compensation is based on the value of the unplayed games and was set at 25 percent of the season ticket‘s price.
To receive a compensation for the EuroLeague and LKL games that were not played, you should fill out this form. The form can be filled out until the 30th of June.
Season ticket holders will be able to receive compensation in two ways: either receiving a refund to their bank account, or receiving a discount for next season‘s ticket. THose who wish to help the team financially may choose not to receive compensation and use it as support for Zalgiris. In that case, you should still fill out the form.
We hope to send out compensations in 14 work days, but due to the working restrictions under the quarantine, the process might take longer. We hope for understanding and patience from our season ticket holders.
Zalgiris is thankful for all the fans who‘ve immediately said that they will not be asking for refunds for their tickets and season tickets, this helping the team financially.
