Zalgiris announces first newcomer, Steve Vasturia 3
Zalgiris Kaunas announced its first signing of the offseason, as the Lithuanian champions bring in 25-year-old Steve Vasturia who spent the last season in Germany’s top division.
“I’m extremely excited to join a club that has so much history and success. Ever since I started playing in Europe, I’ve been a huge fan of the organization and watching their teams play. It’s a great honor for me to join the team, and I can’t wait to put on a green-and-white jersey, and play in front of you, fans! It looks like an incredible arena and an amazing atmosphere.”
The American guard represented Rasta Vechta in the 2019-2020 season, and played in both the German league and the FIBA Champions League.
In the national stage Vasturia averaged 13.4 points, 3.7 rebounds and 4.9 assists. Meanwhile, the 196 cm guard put up 11.8 points, 4.0 rebounds and 5.3 assists on the European level
Vasturia represented Notre Dame University and played alongside Martinas Geben. After not hearing his name called in the 2018 NBA Draft, he moved to Europe, where he started off with ALBA Berlin. He finished the season in Spain’s second division, and after a successful ending to the season, moved back to Germany to play for Rasta.
The new Zalgiris guard signed a two-year deal with an opportunity to extend it for one more season.
