Thomas Walkup stays with Zalgiris 44
Zalgiris put another position to bed, as the Lithuanian champions have retained Thomas Walkup. July 20th was the last date that his contract could have been bought out.
The American joined the green-and-whites in 2018, and had extended his contract until 2021 in November.
The 27-year-old guard showed big improvements in his second EuroLeague season. Comparing to the first year, Walkup‘s numbers grew in most statistical graphs along with his role. Walkup played 25 minutes per game this season, compared to 16 in his debut one, as his scoring grew from 5.2 to 9.6 points per game, while his assists nearly tripled from 2.2 to 5.5. Walkup was one of the team‘s most efficient players this season, as his average efficiency grew from 5.6 to 12.7.
The guard reached his career high in assists at the end of 2019, dishing out 11 dimes to his teammates in the game against Bayern Munich.
In the Lithuanian basketball league, Thomas Walkup averaged 17 minutes of action, putting up 7.1 points, 4.2 assists and an efficiency of 11.9 on a nightly basis.
