World vice-champion Garino joins Zalgiris 52
As the new season comes closer, Zalgiris continues filling out its roster with the addition of Argentinian Patricio Garino. Zalgiris and the 27-year-old Garino agreed on a 1+1 deal.
The Argentinian-born Garino also has Italian nationality, and has represented Baskonia Vitoria for the past three years. He started his professional career in 2016, playing in the G League, and had signed a short-term contract with the Orlando Magic in the NBA.
The 201 cm-tall forward is known for his all-around game and defensive prowess. During his time with Baskonia, Garino managed to improve his numbers each season. After initially averaging 4.5 points and 1.7 rebounds in 15 minutes, his averages reached 6.7 points and 3.5 rebounds in 19 minutes of action before an cruciate ligament injury derailed his season.
Before his injury, Garino’s stats in the Spanish league were even more impressive – 10.3 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.5 assists.
Garino was also a key piece in Argentina’s memorable run in the 2019 FIBA World Cup, where they were able to finish second. In 24 minutes of action, the forward averaged 8.1 points, 3.3 rebounds and 1.0 assists per game.
