Zalgiris starts cup run with easy victory in Pasvalys 6
Zalgiris started the Citadele-King Mindaugas Cup quarterfinals series against Pieno zvaigzdes victoriously, as they left Pasvalys with a comfortable 98-82 win.
The game was as close as it comes in the opening half. It wasn’t quite easy sailing for the green-and-whites in the first quarter, as the Lithuanian champions needed to trim an early 8-point deficit. Before the break, only 3 points separated the two sides, with Zalgiris ahead 53-50.
Things turned for the better after the halftime talk, as Zalgiris came out firing to improve their lead to double-digits. Zalgiris never lost focus and finished off ahead by a comfortable margin.
In a two-game series, Zalgiris will now hold a 16-point advantage heading into the return game in Kaunas.
The Kaunas side was led by Frenchman Joffrey Lauvergne, who dropped 22 points and 6 rebounds. Augustine Rubit added 15 points, while Marius Grigonis chipped in with 14 points and 9 assists. Team captain Paulius Jankunas finished the game with 13 points, while Arturas Milaknis and Lukas Lekavicius ended up with 11 and 10 points, respectively.
