Zalgiris reaches contract extension with Joffrey Lauvergne 26
As the current season gets into full swing, Zalgiris is already looking ahead, modelling their future plans. The Lithuanian champions have reached a contact extension agreement with big man Joffrey Lauvergne, who has signed a 1+1 deal until the end of the 2022-2023 season.
The Frenchman joined the green-and-whites last summer and immediately became a huge part of the team.
Lauvergne began every single EuroLeague game in the starting unit this season, and has been a key contributor. In 21 minutes of action, Lauvergne averages 11.6 points, 5.8 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game. With an average of 13.0 efficiency per game, he ranks second in the team, behind only Marius Grigonis.
The team‘s head coach Martin Schiller was delighted with the work Joffrey puts in and had nothing but good things to say about his starting center.
“We are delighted to have Joffrey coming back. He’s a vital part of our team and our club. Jojo’s qualities on the floor are obvious, but what he shows off of it is just as important. The combination of the two is why we wanted to extend his stay in Kaunas. He identifies with the club, he’s a great teammate and putting all that next to his immense basketball skills, it makes it a no-brainer for us. The fact that he signed so early is also a good sign on its own, as it shows that he trusts the program and likes what he sees here.” – said coach Schiller.
Before moving to Kaunas, Lauvergne spent time with Turkish powerhouse Fenerbahce Istanbul and more than three years in the NBA.
