Zalgiris handles Dzukija in Garino’s return 7
Zalgiris continues its title defense in the Betsafe-LKL, taking on Dzukija in Zalgirio Arena. The green-and-whites managed to hold on to an 86-80 win after a hard-fought affair.
The opening quarter showed no indications of it being an easy battle for Zalgiris. While the Kaunas side had the upper hand after the opening quarter, going up by 5 points, the visitors managed to turn it around and get their noses ahead before the break, 47-49.
The team’s fought tooth-and-nail, and only a single point separated the two sides before the final period. However, with Paulius Jankunas leading the way, Zalgiris managed to take the initiative and eventually held on to a slim lead.
Both Jankunas and Joffrey Lauvergne put up 16 points and 6 rebounds apiece, while Marius Grigonis chipped in with 11 points and 5 assists. Lukas Lekavicius and Martinas Geben ended up with 9 each, while Rokas Jokubaitis ended up with 8. Thomas Walkup filled up the stat-sheet with 6 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists for Zalgiris.
Patricio Garino made his return to the court and ended up with 3 points and 2 rebounds in 15 minutes of action.
