Zalgiris gets a thriller in first pre-season game 1
Emmanuel Mudiay made an impressive debut with Zalgiris Kaunas, but Errick McCollum took matters into his own hands and clinched Lokomotiv Kuban Krasnodar’s victory in a friendly game.
In a breathtaking thriller, Lokomotiv beat Zalgiris 88-87 (22-22, 22-24, 27-21, 20-17). For Lithuanian champions, it was the first pre-season game.
With 11 seconds left to play, Emmanuel Mudiay knocked down the jumper, and Zalgiris got a 1-point lead – 87-86.
Lokomotiv’s head coach Evgeniy Pashutin asked for a timeout, and final possession was given to McCollum, who made a basket with 3.3 seconds left to play. Mudiay managed to take a half-court shot, but his attempt wasn’t successful, and Lokomotiv got the victory.
McCollum played 34 minutes and finished the game with 23 points (4/8 2PT, 3/6 3PT, 6/7 FT), 7 assists, 4 rebounds, 1 steal, 7 drawn fouls, and 27 EFF.
Meanwhile, Mudiay scored 21 points (7/13 2PT, 1/4 3PT, 4/4 FT), and added 5 assists, 2 rebounds, 3 steals, 4 drawn fouls, with 22 EFF in 28 minutes of playing time.
For the winners, Johnathan Motley added 19 points (8/12 2PT, 3/4 FT), 6 rebounds, 4 assists, 1 steal, 4 turnovers, and 21 EFF.
Besides Mudiay, Josh Nebo, Tyler Cavanaugh, and Niels Giffey also made their debuts for Zalgiris.
Cavanaugh scored 16 points and added 5 rebounds in 21 minutes of playing time. Nebo finished the game with 8 points, whilst Giffey collected 4 points.
Mantas Kalnietis and Edgaras Ulanovas made their comebacks to Zalgiris. Kalnietis scored 5 points and dished 2 assists, while Ulanovas added 7 points and 3 rebounds.
