Zalgiris starts 2022 with a win in Kedainiai 14
Zalgiris Kaunas registered 14th win in 15 games in Betsafe-LKL after defeating Nevezis-Optibet 77-69 (27-24, 17-15, 17-17, 16-13) on the road in Kedainiai.
Lithuanian champs fielded an 11-man roster, as Josh Nebo felt weak during warm-up and was sidelined. Marek Blazevic took his place in the starting-five and immediately delivered scoring 9 points in first 4 minutes. Zalgiris led 27-24 after first quarter.
Janis Strelnieks took over the scoring in second quarter, as Kaunas team was in front 44-39 at halftime.
Zalgiris increased the lead to double digits after sharpshooting from Arturas Milaknis and Tyler Cavanaugh (53-41), but the hosts didn’t give up and closed third quarter at 61-56.
Nevezis-Optibet got within 2 points (65-63) at the start of fourth quarter. However, Cavanaugh had the last say, as he scored 7 points and sealed the win for the visitors.
