New positive COVID-19 cases in Zalgiris camp 22
After hearing on news on yet another postponement in their EuroLeague schedule, Zalgiris could not catch a break and received news on new positive cases among the team’s roster. After conducting COVID-19 tests, positive cases were detected for big man Josh Nebo and physical preparation coach Nerijus Navickas.
Zalgiris was supposed to play their Round 18 game against Panathinaikos on Wednesday, and had tests done before the trip. Positive results were also shown to previously sick Paulius Jankunas, Arturas Milaknis and Tai Webster. While they are feeling good and can leave isolation according to the rules in place in Lithuania, they will only be able to play in the EuroLeague after receiving two consecutive negative tests.
With the rest of the team undergoing testing too, positive results were shown to Josh Nebo and physical preparation coach Nerijus Navickas, who both have isolated themselves from the team.
As the team awaited results, head coach Jure Zdovc felt slight cold symptoms and missed Tuesday’s morning practice, with Tautvydas Sabonis and Evaldas Berzininkaitis running it instead. Nevertheless, Zdovc’s test results came back negative.
In the list of injured players is Janis Strelnieks, who’s missed the last two games with a hamstring injury, while Mantas Kalnietis injured his ankle in the game against Rytas on Sunday. Whether they will be able to play in Milan on Friday is to be seen in the next couple practices.
Zalgiris’ young guns Mantas Rubstavicius, Titas Sargiunas, Liutauras Lelevicius and Motiejus Krivas could be making the trip to Milan, as they practiced with the main team.
