EuroLeague stars celebrate Paulius Jankunas’ illustrious career 5
Zalgiris captain Paulius Jankunas will close the curtain on his illustrious, 19-year EuroLeague career with one final game in Zalgirio Arena, as the green-and-whites take on Crvena Zvezda.
Before the game against the Serbian champions, the legendary Zalgiris man, who’s played 391 EuroLeague games, recorded over 3000 points and over 2000 rebounds, was congratulated by EuroLeague stars, former teammates, opponents and coaches.
“Paulius Jankunas! Legend! Congrats to you, my man. Best for you on your retirement. Enjoy life, the best is about to come. It was a huge honor to compete against you,” – shared Barcelona star Nikola Mirotic.
Greetings were sent from Donatas Motiejunas, Brock Motum, Leo Westermann, with the latter referring to Jankis as a great French wine. Congratulations came in from Olympiacos head coach Georgios Barzokas, Nando De Colo and many others.
Sarunas Jasikevicius shared his thoughts as well, joking on extending his stay for a little while longer.
“Hi Jankis. Congratulations on your amazing career. Thank you for what you did for our club, for me. To have a player like you was the greatest imaginable thing for a young coach like me. I saw you dunked in one of your last games. You had a similar one against Olympiacos five years ago, and here you go again. Think about it, there’s still time to turn retirement around.”
Jankunas’ final EuroLeague game will take place on Sunday 18:40 in Zalgirio Arena, as the green-and-whites face off against Crvena Zvezda.
