Zalgiris overcomes Lietkabelis in LKL semifinals start 28
Zalgiris Kaunas defeated guests Lietkabelis Panevezys 71-70 (16-19, 18-17, 21-20, 16-14) to make it 1-0 in the Lithuanian League’s semifinals that will be decided in a best-of-five format.
Game 2 will be held in Panevezys on Monday afternoon (17:30 CET).
Lietkabelis started the match better and maintained the lead throughout the first three quarters.
Josh Nebo and Tai Webster gave Zalgiris a two-possession lead (69-65) with less than two minutes left. Gagic made it 69-68, before Lukas Lekavicius instantly responded and Gediminas Orelik returned the favor (71-70).
No team managed to score in the closing 51 seconds, which allowed the hosts to get a hard-fought win.
For the team coached by Kazys Maksvytis, Webster went for 14 points, with Lekavicius adding 11 and Joffrey Lauvergne another 10. On the other end, Orelik and Djordje Gagic scored 19 apiece for Lietkabelis.
