Zalgiris loses semifinals for the first time in LKL history 103
Zalgiris Kaunas will miss the Lithuanian League finals for the first time in nearly 30 years (since the league was created in 1993). Lietkabelis Panevezys prevailed over Zalgiris, 86-75 (15-17, 28-15, 24-25, 19-18) on Saturday, and finished the best-of-five series 3-1.
Lietkabelis will meet Rytas Vilnius in the grand final, while Zalgiris will fight Siauliai for the third place. Teams will compete in a best-of-seven series.
Even though Zalgiris opened the game with an 8-0 spurt, Lietkabelis quickly recovered and stabilized their positions (12-10). They ran away from Zalgiris at the end of the second quarter, closing the first half with a 13-4 push and gaining a 13-point lead (41-28).
Despite Zalgiris coming within 5 points (70-75) in the last tally, Lietkabelis pushed the accelerator pedal once more and did not look back (84-72).
Gediminas Orelik led the route for the winners, posting 19 points (2/3 2PT, 2/7 3PT, 9/10 FT), 4 rebounds, 3 assists, and 20 PIR.
Tyler Cavanaugh and Lukas Lekavicius had 14 points apiece for Zalgiris.
