Zalgiris wins first game of the pre-season 3
Zalgiris started friendly game action by facing Polski Cukier Pszczółka Start Lublin in Kaunas on Wednesday. The green-and-white team defeated visitors from Poland 90-83 (28-22, 19-26, 19-21, 24-14).
Karolis Lukosiunas started the game hot, nailing three three-pointers in the first minutes. Keenan Evans and Laurynas Birutis scored 4 points each, and Zalgiris led 28-22 after 10 minutes.
Lublin’s sharpshooters kept their team close, despite Birutis’ collecting his 12th point and Lukosiunas’ leading the scorers with 13 at halftime. The final 7-0 run by Polski Cukier got them in front 47-48 at the break.
Led by Edgaras Ulanovas Zalgiris pumped up the gas to start the third quarter (56-50), but another run by the opponents saw them get in front again, 60-63. However, Mantas Kalnietis finished the third period with two timely threes, 66-69.
Another 3 by Kalnietis didn’t allow Lublin to run away (72-76), as Zalgiris finally took matters into own hands and delivered a 14-1 spurt to change the outcome of the game. Tomas Dimsa and Evans connected from downtown, Birutis added 6 more points, and the home team took the 90-83 win.
Big guy Birutis was the best scorer with 18 points, Lukosiunas followed with 16 and Ulanovas made 13.
Cleveland Melvin led Lublin with 22 points.
