Zalgiris tastes first defeat in Vilnius 27
Zalgiris Kaunas suffered its first loss in the Betsafe-LKL Championship, as they were handed an 85-89 defeat against Rytas Vilnius.
The Vilnius side took the initiative with a 6-point lead mid-first quarter, yet Zalgiris managed to get back up and finished the opening period strong to go up by 4, 27-23.
The affair kept the two teams close, with neither managing to make a breakthrough in the first half.
Zalgiris held a game-high 13-point lead in the third quarter, but the hosts managed to get back within striking distance before the final quarter.
Rytas’ Marcus Foster took matters into his own hands in the closing stages of the game, as he improved his tally to 34 with a game-sealing three-pointer with 10 seconds to go. The final score: 85-89.
Zalgiris was led by Ignas Brazdeikis, who had 18 points. Keenan Evans dropped 12, as Edgaras Ulanovas finished the game with 10, Kevarrius Hayes had 9 in his first Lithuanian derby experience.
