EuroLeague champions prevail in Kaunas 28
Anadolu Efes Istanbul kept its impressive run of results going in the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague by downing Zalgiris Kaunas on the road in Round 12. This victory, Efes’s fifth in a row, improves the visitors’ record to 7-5, while Zalgiris drops to 6-6.
Zalgiris lost the game 60-86, with Rodrigue Beaubois scoring a team-high 20 points for the winners. Vasilije Micic added 19, while Will Clyburn had 17.
Tyler Cavanaugh finished with 15 points for Zalgiris.
Micic stepped up early with three driving layups, a three-pointer and 3 assists, making Zalgiris call a timeout at 8-17. Clyburn and Amath M’Baye each struck from downtown to keep Efes ahead, 19-25, after 10 minutes.
Cavanaugh kept pacing the hosts, but Ante Zizic dunked twice and got help from Beaubois to keep Efes way ahead, 24-33. Edgaras Ulanovas and Rolands Smits fueled a 13-0 run that bridged between both halves to put the hosts ahead, 37-33.
Tibor Pleiss, Beaubois and Micic each found answers from beyond the arc in a 0-15 run that put Efes in control, 39-48. A flurry of three-pointers boosted Efes’s margin to 48-63 after 30 minutes. Nothing changed after that, as Efes kept a safe margin until the final buzzer.
