Zalgiris wins against Real Madrid at home 11
Zalgiris Kaunas returned to winning ways in front of its fans by downing Real Madrid 81-74 at Zalgirio Arena. The hosts grabbed their fifth home victory of the season after losing their two games in Kaunas. This victory moved Zalgiris up to 7-7 in the standings, while Real dropped to 9-5.
Keenan Evans paced Zalgiris with 20 points, while Edgaras Ulanovas, Tyler Cavanaugh and Arnas Butkevicius contributed 19, 15 and 10, respectively.
Dzanan Musa had a game-high 22 points for Real. Mario Hezonja added 17 for Los Blancos, which saw their four-game road winning streak come to an end.
Zalgiris shook off a slow start once Ulanovas and Evans each hit a triple for a 10-10 tie. Musa, Hezonja and Walter Tavares combined for 19 first-quarter points to give Los Blancos an 18-21 lead.
Musa capped a 0-7 Real run with a three-pointer that gave his team a 30-32 lead. Rolands Smits and Butkevicius then helped Zalgiris regain a 37-35 lead at halftime.
Musa kept pacing Real, getting help from Tavares and Nigel Williams-Goss for a 50-55 advantage. Ulanovas and Evans downed one three-pointer apiece to give the hosts a 56-55 edge after three quarters.
Hezonja’s triple turned the game into a thriller, 66-66. But, Zalgiris found a go-to guy in Evans, who had 9 points in a 15-3 run en route to a big win at home.
